Titjikala celebrating two in a row!

10 December 2014

After being named Territory Tidy Town for a second successive year, the MacDonnell Regional Council community of Titjikala is set to celebrate the best way they know how – with its residents and friends around a barbeque.

On Monday 15 December the community of Titjikala will be in a festive mood as they spend the day showcasing the qualities that have twice had them qualify as a finalist in the National Keep Australia Beautiful Tidy Town Awards after again being named the Territory Tidy Town.

The community will be visited on the day by the National Tidy Town Judge, Jill Grant, as she makes her way around Australia assessing the best communities in the country. Titjikala will also be joined by a special guest, representatives of local and territory government and industry for a morning that will showcase the projects, services and achievements that demonstrate what has been going so right in Titjikala:

  • Council’s Civil Works team will present various projects and upgrades they have delivered around the community including: installation of family parks, waste management processing, upgrades to cemetery, flood mitigation and revegetation projects
  • MacDonnell Regional Council will demonstrate and explain its Home Care Services, Children’s Services, Youth Development and Community Safety services
  • Progress will be demonstrated on other community engagement projects with the Australian Army, Tangentyere Projects and Alice Springs Metal Recyclers that respectively include a community wide effluent system upgrade from septic tanks to a mains sewerage, sporting facilities upgrades, and a major recycling project.

The community and its visitors will then come together for a lunch around the barbeque at which time the community will be officially presented with the trophies and awards honouring their achievements to date, in the Keep Australia Beautiful competition.

Representatives from Titjikala and MacDonnell Regional Council will travel to Sheffield, Tasmania where the winners of the National Tidy Towns Awards will be announced at a gala presentation on Friday 27 February 2015.
